Fun at home

We have been having so much fun at home lately. Kathryn and Quinn enjoy each other so much, it makes life at home such a blessing. I love that it is rare for us to be in a hurry to go anywhere, it makes it easy to appreciate the little things. I happened to have my camera upstairs the other day and was able to catch a few of our fun times.

It seems like the girls’ favorite time of the day is waking up, in the morning or from naptime. Whoever is up first gets to go in and wake up the other. If Quinn and I go in together to get Kathryn, you can hear Kathryn giggling as soon as she knows we are on our way. Quinn has her own step stool at the end of the Crib, so she can run right in to see her sister. And if Kathryn & I go into Quinn’s room, Quinn loves to have Kathryn lay in bed with her for a little while. Quinn tucks her in and lets her take turns holding each of her buddies. “See Kathryn, this is Big Bird, and this is Doggie...”

And Quinn has a new favorite hobby. She LOVES exploring in my closet. She tries on all of my shoes, and as much as I don’t like my closet being destroyed on a daily basis, it is just to cute to say no to. And, to Dean’s dismay, she has also recently realized that Daddy’s closet is pretty fun too!

But don’t worry, Quinn hasn’t forgotten her tutu yet. And as you can see, it is a wreck. She insists on wearing it 80% of the time that we are home and is not happy with me when I try to wash it....

All about Kathryn

Well, it has taken six months, but here it is, a post ONLY about our sweet Kathryn. I can’t believe Laur hasn’t gotten on me to do this ; ) Well, here she is-- our SIX MONTH OLD baby. I can’t believe it, and I know everyone says this, but time just flew by. While I’m excited for each new stage, I am so not ready for her to grow up yet!

She is doing wonderful, and just may very well be the easiest baby in the world. She is so sweet, and so easy going. She still sleeps great but doesn’t complain if she misses a nap while I make her run errands with me. She loves to laugh and her favorite toys remain her Sophie, her Moose, and most of all, she loves her big sister. She loves to play in her jumpy seat and likes to sit in her high chair and play while the rest of the family eats. Bathtime still makes her giggle and she loves when we all sit on the bed and read stories together before bedtime.

We went to her six month checkup with Dr Smith this week and he gave her a great report! She is in the 65% for all of her stats: 12lbs, 2oz; 26” tall and her head is 42cm. He gave her the all clear to start eating and recommended plain yogurt as one of her first meals (of course, pictures are below!)

Here are some recent pictures of our sweetie pie...
Can you believe we have already raised the seat for her jumper 2 times?!

Ok, so here it is, her first taste of yogurt....step by step
hmmm... not quite worth the wait, hu sweetie pie?!
Next up, maybe we’ll try something a little more tasty... Happy 1/2 Birthday Kathryn, we love you!!

Snow Days

While Dean was away watching his Tigers win the National Championship game, we had quite a little snow storm at our house. We measured six inches on our deck, which is big time for Atlanta!  We were completely snowed in for days, but Dean was lucky enough that his flight was not cancelled, so he was able to get home just in enough time to enjoy the snow with us for a few more days. Here are some of the pictures...
Quinn was sure she could do something in the snow with her beach toys

Love this, reminds me of winter in PA.... the pile of frozen clothes, thawing out... and Quinn of course had to try on all of Mommy’s gear!

Quinn was NOT thrilled about coming inside and wasn’t so sure about the hot chocolate.. until she tasted it!

And after I was frozen solid, we started on the activities.  We tried it all, coloring, painting, moon dough...so much fun but thank goodness Daddy came home when he did!

I couldn’t get over how much ice we had, it was like we had our own personal skating rink in our back yard!  As you can see, we had a great time, but we are hoping not to see snow again until next winter!

School Day & Dance class

Thursday was a very fun day at the Driskell house! It was Quinn’s first day back to school from winter break and boy was she excited to go back. I think she talked about Mrs. Hussy EVERY day of the break! It was a rainy day so she was sporting one of her new Christmas outfits, courtesy of her Godfather, Uncle Christian. As you can tell from the pictures, she thinks he has great taste!

Making sure the froggies and ; umbrellas are still there

Doing a little happy dance, a new outfit & rain boots, what more could a girl ask for on a rainy day?!

Kathryn just adores her big sister, and her favorite thing is when Quinn sings and dances for her, which as you can guess, happens often!

....and the day just got better. She just found out that she now has “extended days” at school, which means she gets to stay for lunch, which means a new lunch bag!!

After a good nap, Quinn got another great surprise.... It was FINALLY time for dance class! She has been waiting patiently for it all week. “Mommy go to dance party today?!”

here we are getting ready. She was a little sad she wasn’t allowed to wear her shoes until we got there, and we couldn’t quite get the bun to work. tried the little bun gadget, but we need some practice on that one!

When the class began I was pretty nervous that we started her too early. I didn’t realize when we signed her up that all of the other girls had been in the class since September. They all sang her a welcome song and she was pretty intimidated. For the first few minutes of class, she just watch everyone, didn’t participate much but of course smiled the entire time.

By the end of class, Quinn was doing great! The worked on pliets and turns and I think her favorite part is when they started “hopping like a bunny”. It was kind an “i told you so” moment for Quinn.

On our way to class, she kept saying she was so excited to see the bunny. I didn’t know what she was talking about until it clicked-- she must have misunderstood me when I was talking about the bun in her hair! So of course, I told her I didn’t think there would be bunnies at this class. Well, what do I know?
I love this one, it is at the end of class and, as you can tell, she can barely contain her excitement!

I took a few quick pictures, but I felt a little funny about it since I was the only mom taking pictures. Once we warm up to the other moms and teachers, I’ll take some more!
